CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A Chesapeake man who was previously sentenced to 36 years in federal prison pleaded guilty to 16 counts of sexual abuse of a child Monday morning.
Jonathan Wilson admitted to performing sexual acts with a child starting when she was just two years old. He had already been convicted in federal court of creating child sexual abuse material from the sexual acts Wilson pled guilty to on Monday.
Wilson’s 16 felony guilty pleas included three counts of sodomy and two counts of rape involving a victim under the age of 13. The other counts involve taking indecent liberties with a child and aggravated sexual battery.
The victim was just two when the abuse started, and continued for two years.
“This monster should never walk on the streets again,” the victim’s mother said in a statement to 10 On Your Side. “He does not belong in our society.”
Wilson created child sexual abuse material from the crimes he committed – authorities say it totaled more than 1,000 pictures and videos.
“He’s a cold and calculated predator who targeted a completely defenseless child,” her mother told us. “His actions are unforgivable and will carry deep emotional and psychological long-term consequences on my child.”
Wilson pleaded guilty in federal court last year to creating child porn and is already serving 36 years. With today’s guilty pleas in Chesapeake Circuit Court, he faces up to five life terms plus 145 years.
The victim’s mother sees the conviction as a key milestone in an already grueling and ongoing journey.
“This marks an important day for us. He’s going away and that makes us feel better knowing that we are a safer society with this man locked up,” she said.
The horrific case became international after Wilson put the child sexual abuse material on the internet through Kik and Telegram. A sex worker in Belgium in contact with Wilson tipped off authorities there, and they notified the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Wilson was arrested in January 2022 at his home on Eden Way North in Greenbrier.
Wilson has now been convicted of both making child sex abuse material and sexual crimes committed against a young child.
The Commonwealth called for Wilson to undergo a psychosexual evaluation and his sentencing is expected in January of 2024. He would serve that sentence only after he has completed his current sentence in the federal system.
