Brother, sister arrested for alleged arson of Carytown Burger and Fries Lakeside restaurant

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A brother and sister have been arrested in connection to a fire that damaged Carytown Burgers and Fries Lakeside in February.

Jordan Castaneda, 37, and Shelby Castaneda, 32, have been charged with burning or destroying any other building or structure and conspiracy to commit arson. They are both being held without bond.

“After several weeks of examining evidence and conducting interviews, the Fire Marshal’s Office determined there is ample reason to believe the fire was intentionally set,” said Assistant Chief Henry Rosenbaum, Henrico County’s Fire Marshal.

The incident was first brought to the attention of authorities around 7 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, when first responders were called to 5404 Lakeside Avenue for a reported structure fire.

Upon their arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from inside the Carytown Burgers and Fries Lakeside business. The fire was quickly extinguished and the Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to investigate.

“Thankfully, no one was hurt,” Rosenbaum said. “But the fire did cause significant damage. Firefighters on scene had great awareness in alerting the Fire Marshals, who were then able to build an investigation. We also appreciate the support of Henrico Police throughout this process.”

The fire remains under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Henrico Fire Marshal’s Office at 804-501-4914 or email firemarshal@henrico.us.
