NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Two men accused of killing a 20-year-old Norfolk State University (NSU) student in September of 2023 will remain behind bars for the foreseeable future following a Thursday afternoon hearing.

Camari Warren and Cameron Brown are accused in the Sept. 3 shooting that killed NSU junior Jahari George. The two were charged with second-degree murder, conspiracy and use of a firearm in connection to the homicide.

The two were in court for a preliminary hearing, however, that hearing wasn’t able to take place due to an extended argument over discovery documents.

The defense argued motions to force the Commonwealth to release more information about a pair of their witnesses.

According to police, the shooting occurred in the 2700 block of Gate House Road just after 11 p.m. George was found shot inside of a vehicle, and was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Both Warren and Brown were 18 at the time of the shooting.

A third suspect, Marquas Gregg, had his charges withdrawn in March of this year, after the commonwealth stated they had insufficient evidence to move forward with the case.

Norfolk Commonwealth Attorney Ramin Fatehi said the evidence against Warren and Brown is “quite different,” stating they have “every intention of proceeding against them.”

The next court date has been set for Oct. 24.
