CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A 69-year-old man is in custody and charged with murder after another man was found shot to death at a home on Canning Place in Chesapeake.

Chesapeake police say they responded to the 2000 block of Canning Place on Sunday around 6:45 p.m. for a report of an injured person inside a residence. They found the man dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

According to court documents, the victim is John Epitacio Casiquito.

The suspect, Richard Seevers, was taken into custody at the scene and charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Police didn’t have many details in a release Monday, but said both men lived at the home.

A neighbor, who didn’t want to go on camera, says for years their family listened to Casiquito yell at Seevers.

Multiple people who live on the street also say they had a tumultuous relationship with the victim.

10 On Your Side confirmed Seevers was commissioner apparatus for the Chesapeake Mayor’s Commission on Veterans Affairs.

Seevers was expected in court Monday morning, but the court clerk says his arraignment was continued.

He’s set to be back in court Sept. 1 for his preliminary hearing.

The shooting is still under investigation.
