Warrants issued for suspect in Fourth of July evening shooting in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY)– Police have issued arrest warrants for a suspect after a shooting Thursday night in Portsmouth that left a man injured.

According to police, officers were called to the 400 block of Water Street just after 10 p.m. on Independence Day for the report of a shooting. When officers arrived on scene, they located a man with a gunshot wound.


He was taken to the local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police Chief Stephen Jenkins said in an update Friday afternoon that the suspect is 47-year-old Randall Bagley Jr., and arrest warrants have been filed for Bagley. Jenkins says the shooting happened after an altercation broke out between Bagley and the victim.

It was one of two confirmed shootings in Portsmouth on the Fourth of July. The other at a convenience store on High Street left a man dead.
