JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — The James City County Fire Department responded to a fire at an apartment complex Monday afternoon.

Crews were called to the Lafayette Square Apartments in the 140 block of Dehaven Court at 2:14 p.m. for the report of a fire. When crews arrived, they found smoke and fire coming from one apartment and smoke in a second apartment.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames. The fire caused smoke damage to the above apartments.

All residents had evacuated prior to the arrival of the fire department.

No civilians or firefighters were injured.

The American Red Cross is assisting the residents affected by the fire.

Williamsburg Fire Department and York County Fire and Life Safety responded to assist.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
