NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man was injured in a shooting on Interstate 64 eastbound near the Norfolk/Hampton line at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Thursday evening, Virginia State Police said.

State Police said that, at this stage of its investigation, it believes that a dark-gray Jeep SUV was heading east on I-64 when the passenger of a dark-colored Toyota Tacoma pickup truck fired a single round at the Jeep.

The man driving the Jeep, State Police said, was shot and is being treated for a non-life-threatening injury at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

The incident caused backups of several miles for traffic on I-64, as all eastbound lanes were closed into the evening Thursday near 15th View Street for what was described as police and security activity.

Traffic did not appear to be moving through the HRBT earlier in the evening Thursday.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information about the dark-colored pickup is asked to call State Police at 804-750-8788 or email questions@vsp.virginia.gov.
