SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Investigators say a body found in Suffolk Tuesday morning is a missing woman from Southampton County.
The body of Cynthia Carver was found in the southern part of the city, not far from where she disappeared nearly a month ago. The sheriff’s office identified the body as Carver Wednesday evening, saying members of her family have been notified.
Carver had been last seen the night of February 21. Her mother reported her missing the next day after she went to Cynthia’s home and found a disturbing scene that included a pool of blood near a rear door and a knife in the living room.
Deputies also said they found more blood on sheets and clothing inside the home. Initially a missing person case, investigators now believe Carver was abducted.
Carver’s car was at the house, but her purse and cell phone haven’t been found.
According to the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, she was supposed to meet someone new the night she disappeared. It’s not clear if that meeting ever took place.
Authorities are working to find a suspect in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 757-609-2482.
