(WAVY) — The numerous moving parts to the tropical system to our south is providing a tricky forecast, but latest guidance is helping us out for the day tomorrow. Thursday night into Friday though, that’s a different story.
Tonight
A tornado watch has been issued for the Outer Banks until 8 a.m. Thursday.
Rain moves in from the south, on and off in nature with most of it being light. Occasionally some heavy rain will be thrown in there and that’ll set up some morning showers tomorrow. The breeze will pick up as well, occasionally gusting to around 30mph out of the southeast.
Thursday
It’s not going to rain all day — the system taking more of a westerly track keeps the stormiest weather to our west for most of the day. After a few morning showers or downpours, we’ll be left with cloudy and windy conditions throughout most of the afternoon. Winds could gusts to 35-40 mph, especially around the waterways.
Around sunset, storms from the outer bands of Debby inch closer to the region. Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Thursday evening into early Friday morning. These will bring a tornadic threat with them, so be sure to stay weather aware later Thursday.
Friday
The thunderstorms sliding into the region early Friday morning will slowly fade and crawl through the region throughout most of the morning. As what’s left of Debby pulls away, thunderstorms fade and improving conditions should follow by the end of the day. Heck, we may even see some sunshine before the sun sets!
Weekend
As of now, the weekend looks great — we’ll deal with stubborn clouds and some lingering showers on Saturday, but expect lower humidity and comfortable temperatures to hold through Saturday and Sunday. Sunday does look brighter, with a few showers for the Outer Banks possible.
Tidal Flooding:
The persistent southeast wind on Thursday and Friday, which occasionally will gust to 35 – 40mph, could cause some minor tidal flooding along the Albemarle & Currituck sounds, as well as southern Virginia Beach in Back Bay.
