Arlington ‘safest place in America,’ Bloomberg columnist says

ARLINGTON, Va. (DC News Now) — A writer for Bloomberg said in his opinion column Monday that Arlington is the “safest place in America,” outlining how it became that way.

Justin Fox, who covers business, economics, and “other topics involving charts,” said in his column that Arlington said that Arlington stands out when it comes to safety, explaining that he looked at traffic-related deaths and homicides in comparing the county to other areas of the country. He acknowledged that those may not be the factors others would consider in looking at safety.

Fox maps out the history of Arlington, noting that it once was part of D.C., and looks at some of the decisions made by county leadership over the course of tiime that helped it become the community that often gives off city vibes today. Additionally, he notes some of the recognition that has been given to Arlington by other groups or organizations, including the American College of Sports Medicine, which named Arlington the fittest city in America for the seventh year in a row.
