4 arrested after ‘isolated’ shooting injures 2 inside MacArthur Center

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Two people were taken to the hospital and four people were arrested after a fight between two groups led to shots being fired Thursday afternoon inside the MacArthur Center, Norfolk police say.

Police say the two people transported, an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old, had gunshot wounds that were not considered life-threatening. The 16-year-old was taken to Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters and the 18-year-old was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

The 18-year-old that was shot was one of the four suspects charged in the incident, police say, but police did not specify his identity.

The four men police arrested and charged are:

The 911 call for the shooting was received at 2:15 p.m.

Photos taken by people outside the mall showed a man in police custody.

Around 5:18 p.m., a car was towed from the mall with a police car following. Officers were still at the scene and searching through bushes outside the mall, WAVY’s Kara Dixon reports.

Jim Wofford, general manager of the mall, told 10 On Your Side shots were fired on the first floor near Nordstrom. The mall was placed on lockdown, but the lockdown was lifted at 3:26 p.m. The interior entrance to Nordstrom was expected to remain closed as police processed the scene.

Wofford says that one of the stray bullets also hit the Rootz store on the first floor. Some of the stores inside decided not to reopen once the lockdown was cleared.
