NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A federal jury convicted three men in 2009 home invasion and attempted drug robbery in Newport News that turned deadly.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Mark X. Wallace, of Williamsburg, Bryan L. Brown, of Newport News, and Joseph Benson, of Boston, were convicted last week for their roles in shooting death of Louis Joseph Jr.
According to court documents, Wallace recruited Benson, who traveled to Newport News from Massachusetts in March of 2009 in order to help rob Joseph.
Prosecutors said Benson and another person broke into the home, and shot Joseph multiple times. Wallace, meanwhile, was waiting outside in a car outside at the time.
Brown transported the murder weapons to New York, where they were later recovered during an undercover operation.
The three men face a maximum penalty of life in prison. Brown and Benson’s sentencing hearings are scheduled for July 19 and July 24, respectively.
Wallace is scheduled for sentencing Aug. 6.
