WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) — Two people and a dog are safe after a house fire in the gated Kingsmill subdivision of Williamsburg caught fire Tuesday morning.

Units from James City County responded to E. Landing around 3 a.m. Assistant Fire Chief Tristan Aiken said flames were coming out of the roof when firefighters arrived on scene. 

Kingsmill Police Chief James West confirmed to 10 On Your Side two people and one dog were home at the time of the fire, but made it out safely.

Crews had the fire under control around 5:50 a.m.

Real estate records estimate the home is worth $2.7 million.

James City County officials said three firefighters were transported to a local emergency room for heat-related symptoms. Two of the firefighters were later released, but one remained in the hospital for observation.

Another firefighter was treated for a minor foot injury, officials said.

Two crews were still on scene Tuesday after noon, to conducted what officials said was “final cleanup.” An extensive overhaul was required after the flames were extinguished.

Crews from the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety and the Williamsburg Fire Department also responded to the scene.

The James City County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
