History-Making Naval Station Norfolk Commander Retires

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – The first Black person, as well as the first Black woman to serve as Commanding Officer of Naval Station Norfolk, retired from the Navy after 37 years of service.

Captain Janet Days made national headlines last year when she broke two glass ceilings at once when she took the helm of the world’s largest Naval base. She plans to continue to work and serve the community of Hampton Roads after her retirement.
