PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Gov. Glenn Youngkin was in Portsmouth on Thursday to present an award to a locally based organization.
He and his wife, Suzanne, handed out the latest Spirit of Virginia Award to Mercy Chefs. The faith-based nonprofit provides professionally prepared meals to victims, volunteers and first responders during natural disasters and emergencies.
Mercy Chefs has become a beacon of hope across Virginia and beyond, delivering high-quality meals to communities in crisis and combating food insecurity through its community kitchens and outreach programs.
WAVY-TV 10 teamed up with them to collect and send donations to victims of Hurricane Helene a few months ago.
This is the sixth Spirit of Virginia Award thus far this year.
