VIDEO: WAVY’s Nick Broadway takes us on renovated Loch Ness Monster

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) – The creature from the deep is back. After closing last November, the Loch Ness Monster rollercoaster is returning to Busch Gardens Williamsburg this week.

The 46-year-old ride underwent a full restoration. Engineers replaced 900 feet of track and added several new features, including new thematic and experiential elements.

WAVY News 10 reporter Nick Broadway was invited to be one of the first to check out the new ride before it opens to the general public on Friday, May 10. He was joined by Suzy Cheely, Vice President of Design and Engineering at Busch Gardens.

The Loch Ness Monster was the world’s first interlocking loop coaster and remains the only one in America, Cheely said.

The Loch Ness Monster opened at Busch Gardens Williamsburg in June 1978. It reaches speeds up to 60 miles per hour.

Busch Gardens members were invited to an exclusive preview of the revamped ride from May 2 through May 5.
