RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — It may be a hard-knock life, but not for Broadway fans! The hit Broadway musical “Annie” just finished playing at the Altria Theater in Richmond and heads to its next stop in Washington, D.C. as it continues its tour across the United States.
The show is a classic take on the original score and production, following the story of orphan Annie. Through classic songs like “Tomorrow!”, she shows audiences how sunshine is never too far away.
Chesapeake native Rainey Treviño, who has starred locally with The Hurrah Players, plays the leading lady.
“It’s just like the best thing in the world, really,” Rainey said. “If you had told me a year ago that I’d be playing Annie in the national tour, I would never have believed you. This has just been a dream come true. It’s been great to bring the character to life. It’s just absolutely amazing.”
Watch how she found out she was going to play Annie.
She said she hopes audiences walk away feeling inspired.
“The main message is, well, of course, as Annie has said so herself, ‘the sun will come out tomorrow,'” she said. “There’s always a silver lining on a grey cloud, there’s always a glimmer of hope, there’s always something good.”
Tour dates are running through mid-May and can be found here.
