PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — When you lose color in your face, people may say it looks like you’ve seen a ghost. Well … in these Virginian cities … maybe you did.

October puts everyone in the spooky spirit whether that’s watching a favorite Halloween movie, boo-ing your neighbor with treats, haunted houses or maybe even ghost hunting? If you’re looking for the best spot to put on your Ghostbusters costume, Hampton Roads may be the place. Talk about being in the “spirit” of Halloween.

Yorktown, Gloucester, Virginia Beach and Suffolk all made it on a top 10 for list of places most likely to see a ghost in Virginia, according to Bet Virginia.

This should come as no surprise, but Yorktown takes the casket at No. 1 with 45 sightings.

Yorktown was settled back in 1630 and was the battleground in the American Revolution that marked a major victory for George Washington against British forces.

The Battle of Yorktown was a significant historic moment for the then-general as it was the keystone battle leading to a surrender and then, later, a treaty. Nearly 90 Americans were killed and around 140-310 British soldiers, making this an ideal place for old souls to lurk.

Who knows … maybe a few soldiers in red coats are still roaming around …. hoping to get in one last battle.

The next ghost-ridden area in Hampton Roads is Gloucester County at No. 3 with 38 sightings.

Discover Gloucester’s website tells several tales of ghostly scenes at ships, museums and abandoned settlements.

This is shortly followed by Virginia Beach at No. 4 with 35 sightings. The Cavalier Hotel, Ferry Plantation House and First Landing State Park are just three of the locations listed as the most haunted locations, the city states.

The final local spot to see a blast from the past is Suffolk, which sits at No. 10 with 24 ghost sightings.
