PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – French general Marquis de Lafayette distinguished himself with his military deeds during the American Revolutionary War, earning the nickname, “Hero of Two Worlds.” He served under George Washington and was responsible for setting up a blockade of the British Navy at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. During that time, General Lafayette
visited Portsmouth, not once but twice. This year marks the 200th anniversary of his last visit to our area and the Hill House Museum in Portsmouth is celebrating the bicentennial all month long. Find out how he’s being honored in today’s Community Connection or visit thehillhousemuseum.org
The Hampton Roads Show airs weekdays at 11 a.m. on WAVY-TV 10.
