HRS: Genieve Shelter supports abuse victims

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and all month long, we are highlighting non-profit organizations and shelters that are helping break the cycle of domestic violence and supporting abuse victims. The Genieve Shelter strives to provide a safe refuge and supportive environment for the victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking as well as provide information, education and training services that focus on ending the cycle of violence. Board President, Kim Ellis, and volunteer, Susan Stone, shared more about their resources and how you can help.

They’re hosting a gala Saturday, Oct. 19 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at YMCA Camp Arrowhead to help fund Nora’s Safehouse. For more information, go to their website.
