PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – In 1981, a group of concerned citizens in Elizabeth City organized a meeting to discuss the need to set up a local food bank. With the effort of 20 area churches and dozens of businesses, the Food Bank of the Albemarle was born.
Since those early days, the Food Bank of the Albemarle has distributed approximately 46 million meals to the hungry men, women and children in a 15 county region that makes up northeast North Carolina.
The Food Bank of the Albemarle continues to be dedicated to eliminating hunger in northeast North Carolina and feed the people of that very large area each and every day. But it takes a community and every donation helps. Find out how you can help fight hunger and help your neighbors in North Carolina by going to afoodbank.org.
