VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The qualifying rounds on NBC’s American Ninja Warrior continued in Los Angeles Monday, with ninjas across the country taking on the world’s most challenging obstacle course.

Herbert Steadman from Virginia Beach was among the competitors featured in Monday night’s airing.

According to an article by the Natchez Democrat, Steadman, who is a Third Class Petty Officer in the Navy, began training for American Ninja Warrior at a gym in Virginia Beach almost three years ago.

On his Instagram account, Steadman also describes himself as a fitness model and a barber.

“You never know how a haircut will really change somebody’s life, honestly,” Steadman told NBC.

“I like to do good things in the community, but I’m for sure going to do good things on the course tonight.”

In case you missed it, Steadman didn’t complete the course. He failed on the Kite surfer, placing 14th overall in his qualifying round, just missing out on the top 13.

Steadman still has a chance to move on to the semi-finals, where every run’s a race. That runoff happens next week.

There are some changes this season. The Mega Wall has been raised to 18.5 feet, the tallest ever. Also, competitors must complete the entire course under 1:20 for the $10,000 prize if they also conquer the Mega Wall.

Watch American Ninja Warrior Mondays at 8 p.m. on WAVY TV 10 and the next day, available on Peacock.

And tune in to The Hampton Roads Show this Thursday (July 27) on WAVY TV at 11 a.m. for our interview with Steadman.
