PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – To commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, WAVY-TV 10 and WVBT/FOX43 will air “D-Day: The Greatest Victory”, focusing on the largest air, land, and naval operation in wartime history, when Allied troops landed on the coast of Normandy, France, to liberate Europe from the Nazis.

Produced by WAVY-TV 10 in association with Nexstar Broadcasting, this special will air Wednesday, June 5 at 7 p.m. on WAVY-TV 10 and at 6 p.m. on WVBT/FOX43.

The actual D-Day landing occurred on June 6, 1944.

In this one-hour special presentation, WAVY-TV 10’s Marielena Balouris returns to Normandy and shares the stories of the sons, brothers and fathers lost in the invasion, and the women who made a difference in the war effort, both in battle and on the Homefront.

Through rare archival footage and firsthand accounts, viewers will witness stories of perseverance, unimaginable sacrifice, and the lessons and legacy of D-Day.

“We acknowledge the importance of D-Day’s anniversary and the necessity of honoring our history and the heroes who have shaped our present,” said Carol Ward, Vice President and General Manager of WAVY-TV 10 and WVBT FOX43. “This special tribute we are privileged to create is a testament to their bravery and a reminder of the sacrifices made to secure the freedoms we enjoy today.”
