Clear the Shelters: Meet the cute pets you can adopt at Norfolk SPCA

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – America’s largest single-day for pet adoptions is back and boasting with furry friends who are ready to become part of your family.

From Aug. 10 to Sept. 10, you can support Clear the Shelters as it celebrates its 10th anniversary. Throughout the campaign, 10 On Your Side will be spotlighting local shelters in the Hampton Roads community where you can foster a pet.


Norfolk SPCA (916 Ballentine Blvd, Norfolk, VA) is one of the oldest animal welfare organizations in the U.S. The shelter currently has almost 70 cats and dogs in need of adoption.

During the campaign, there will be discounts of $40-off for all senior dogs and cats at Norfolk SPCA. Those looking to adopt other adult dogs and cats can get $20-off. These offers do not apply to puppies or kittens. All adoptions will include two gift bags filled with food, coupons for local services and pet merchandise.

Adoptable pets

Anastasia is a 6-month-old Hound Mix who loves to cuddle.

Shaka is a Terrier, American Pit Bull Mix. He’s only 2 years old but a big boy with a whole lot of energy.

Beth is a Shorthair Mix kitten. She is just 4 months old and really sweet.

Meet Norfolk’s oldest resident, Athena. Athena is 12 years young and still going strong.
