Do we need rain or not? That’s not a simple question to answer. I’d say a lot of the region is doing just fine on rainfall and needs only a little bit in the short-term. However, there are some folks on the Peninsula and Middle Peninsula that are begging for rain. Here is the rainfall climate for Norfolk.
As you can see we are doing fine in the long-term. Over the last 11 days we’ve had 1.45″ which isn’t too shabby. However, we haven’t had much in the last week. Also, residents on the Peninsula and Middle Peninsulas have missed out on a lot of that rain over the last 3 weeks. A times it has literally danced around them. So again… It really depends on where you live. I think parts of the Eastern Shore also need some rain, but I’m not so sure about folks in North Carolina.
Today we’ll have a few rain showers, but there will be a higher chance for rain to the south and less to the north (where we need it).
There are a couple of reasons for this. For starters there is a stalled out front just to our south with a weak area of low pressure moving along the front.
High pressure is to our west. This is creating a nice/cooling northeast breeze between the 3 systems. This also pulling down some drier air. So as we go into the afternoon there will be some scattered showers and storms forming over North Carolina with only a few showers and storms possibly over southeast Virginia. Those should be closer to the state line.
Some of these could continue into the evening, but they should taper off before sunset. We’ll be partly cloudy for a long stretch today. However, the wind will be out of the northeast at 8-12mph. So that will keep our high temps to near 80 degrees with some milder temps inland.
The humidity isn’t bad today. Our dew points are in the upper 50s to low 60s.
Tomorrow high pressure will build in a little more. We’ll be partly cloudy with only an isolated pop up shower or two. High temps will be in the low 80s.
Then we’ll have more of a southerly wind on Thursday and Friday. High temps will rise to the upper 80s to near 90.
The humidity will also increase for those days as well.
As of right now it looks like we are going to cool down next weekend. High temps will drop to the low 80s, and the humidity should drop as well. There may be some isolated showers on Saturday, but overall the weekend looks quiet.
The tropics look quiet too over the next couple of days. There’s nothing out there right now, but I still think things will pick up soon.
