The weather was pretty nice yesterday. At least in southeast Virginia. We had fair skies and high temps were in the upper 70s to low 80s. However, there were some storms over coastal North Carolina. This was as a weak area of low pressure passed just to our southeast. It was moving along a stationary front. Now that low is out to sea.
High pressure will be more in control of the weather today. We’ll have fair skies with only a stray PM shower or two. High temps will rise to the low-mid 80s with a light northeast breeze.
However, you’ll notice on the satellite/radar that there is another area of low pressure over Florida. This combined with high humidity has created a lot of rain and flooding over parts of that state. Some locations have seen severe flooding. This low will slowly move to the northeast over the next couple of days. The thing is… It now has a low chance of becoming tropical in that time.
Even if it were to form, the bulk of the models keep it offshore and to our south.
Currently, there is not a lot of fuel for storms east/northeast of Florida.
There is, of course the Gulf Stream, but that isn’t too thick of a strip of deep heat just yet. We’ll keep an eye on this feature, but as of right now I’m not too concerned.
There is another possible feature that could form in the Bay of Campeche over the next few days, but that is also a low chance.
Getting back to home. Tomorrow we’ll have quiet weather in the area. We’ll have a light southeast wind. So that will push our high temperatures up into the mid-upper 80s.
We’ll be partly cloudy with a stray shower or two far inland. Humidity still shouldn’t be too bad, but it will come up a bit. We’ll heat up some more on Friday. High temps will rise to near 90 degrees.
With dew points rising into the upper 60s it will feel like the low-mid 90s with the heat index.
It’s that time of year for field days and outdoor school events. So make sure that the kids are staying hydrated.
A cold front will move into the area Friday night into Saturday morning. There will be a few showers along the front, but they should move out by late Saturday morning. Then we’ll have nice weather this weekend. High temps will be in the low 80s both days. Humidity will also drop a bit. It should be good weather for Father’s Day.
