BLOG: Thunderstorms Develop Sunday Afternoon

Its Humid! Dew Points are back in the low 70s this morning. A few of us had some rain overnight, a couple more showers will be possible for the Outer Banks from 8 a.m. to noon today. It’ll be a hot day, high temperatures are going to climb into the upper 80s and low 90s today. With the heat, humidity and a nearby front, we could see some strong storms develop this afternoon.

Strom Risk Sunday Afternoon

As of now, the timing for the storms looks to be after 3 p.m. for Tidewater. The main risk for storms today will be powerful wind gusts.

Our model keeps the storms to our west, but I don’t believe it’s correct, there’s a good chance that closer to sunset today we could see these storms advance to the east and be right on top of us. Keep an eye on Radar and the latest from Don Slater this evening. Another round of thunderstorms will develop on Monday afternoon, those storms could be strong as well.

Ernesto is a tropical storm this morning north of Bermuda. This storm will move into the north Atlantic this week and fade away.

The rest of the Atlantic basic is calm with no storms expected to develop in the days ahead. We’ll keep an eye on the ocean as we get closer to the peak of hurricane season in early September.
