It’s been so long… We forgot what rain looked like. We forgot what it felt like. Luckily, we didn’t forget how to drive in it. Yes, we did get rain last night as expected. At one point around 2:30am it was widespread over the viewing area.
While the coverage was great, the amounts weren’t too high for most. There were hundredths of an inch over North Carolina and about a tenth of an inch over the Southside. Amounts were higher from the Peninsula northward though.
About a half inch up to an inch fell there. This was only a drop in the bucket compared to what’s needed, but we’ll take every drop we can get.
The rain tapered off quite a bit through 8am. However, there were a few more scattered showers to the west. There is a cold front to our west that is creeping closer to the region with high pressure farther to the west.
We’ll be ahead of the front during most of the day today. That means we will warm up to the mid-upper 70s.
There will be lots of clouds with scattered showers through midday.
However, we’ll have some clearing this afternoon. There may be an isolated shower between noon and 2pm. Winds will be out of the southwest until about 3pm. Then winds will be out of the west/northwest.
Tomorrow the front will sink to our south. A second front will actually sweep in fast from the northwest. This is going to keep things much cooler Tuesday. High temps will only be near 60 degrees.
We’ll have lots of sunshine, but the winds will be out of the northeast at 10-15mph with gusts to 25mph. There may even be a few gusts to 30mph near the shore.
We’ll start off chilly on Wednesday with lows in the 30s and 40s. Then we’ll stay chilly through the day. High temps will be only be in the upper 50s.
The last time we had high temps in the 50s was April 26th. Wow! Some places still haven’t had a frost yet. We’ll stay cool and dry during the day Thursday. However, there may be some isolated showers late in the day as overrunning takes over. We’ll have a few more showers Thursday night into Friday morning.
Meanwhile, Rafael fell apart over the Gulf of Mexico. The tropics should stay quiet for the next 2 days.
However, between days 3 and 5 there may be some more development over the western Caribbean.
We’ll have updates.
In national news…There have been wildfires out west for a while, but recently there were some wildfires also in the northeast. They were mainly over New York and New Jersey.
