Over the last few days we have really enjoyed the cool, dry, and breezy conditions. We’ve been able to open up the house and give the air conditioners a break. Well…that’s going to take a brief break for a couple of days. Then we’ll be even drier going into next week. Let’s talk about it.
Today we have an area of low pressure offshore. There is still an area of high pressure to our northwest, but it is much weaker now. Meanwhile, a cold front is strengthening over the Midwest.
We started off this morning with quite a bit of clouds and moisture.
As we go through the day we’ll have a mix of sun and clouds. There may be some isolated showers coming in off of the ocean, but I only have the chance for rain at 20%. The wind has really slackened compared to the last few days. So it will be out of the north/northeast at only about 10mph. This should allow for a little more warming today. High temps will aim for the lower 80s.
With the lack of a breeze and higher humidity, it will feel more like the late Summer season if you are outside. Stay hydrated. By this evening it will feel downright muggy. We should be ok for most of the Friday night football games, but there will be some isolated showers.
Overnight we’ll have lots of clouds. Even more moisture will pool up from the south. We’ll have some scattered rain showers moving up from the south as well. These will be around tomorrow morning.
There will be a high chance for rain over northeast North Carolina with less of a chance for scattered showers over southeast Virginia. These initial showers will decrease around midday. However, more scattered showers and a few storms will form to our north along the cold front.
These scattered showers and a few storms will drop south through the evening. These could impact some of the local college football games.
High temps will be in the upper 70s to low 80s tomorrow, but cooler air will be just to our north. Look at the high in D.C.
The humidity will be thick.
Once the front swings through in the evening then the sharp decline in the humidity will start. We’ll dry out fast through Sunday with a northerly breeze. We’ll have clearing skies and high temps will be in the low-mid 70s. It should feel veeeeeeery nice!
As you can see the humidity drops even more going into Monday morning. This will allow our low temperatures to drop as well. We’ll have lows in the 50s to start the day. There may even be a few upper 40s far inland. Taste of Fall? Oh yeah! Then we’ll have some great weather Monday afternoon. High temps will be in the upper 70s. We’ll warm up a little going into the middle of next week, but the humidity shouldn’t rise too much.
We do need some rain. Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll get too much between today and tomorrow. I think we are looking at a tenth of an inch. 2 tenths at the most. We need some rain now, but we are really going to need it by the end of next week. We likely won’t have any help from the tropics. There are 4 weak tropical disturbances in the Atlantic Basin, but all of them only have a low chance for development.
By the way…We do have another day with a high risk for rip currents.
This is not good for swimmers, and it is still pretty rough surf for surfers. Hopefully, it settles a little late today into tomorrow.
Have a good weekend!
