Tuesday evening update:

Another brisk and bright day is expected tomorrow before subtle flavors of spring arrive for the region. Highs tomorrow should sit on either side of 50 degrees as that pesky coastal breeze backs off. As some warming air begins to move into the region Thursday, we could develop a little fog early Thursday morning.

Then, as a developing cold front to our west takes shape, we’ll warm nicely into the upper 50s and low 60s Thursday afternoon, and with just some passing clouds, we’ll stay dry again. However, that front drops in Thursday night and Friday, bringing scattered showers to the region Friday morning (they could linger into the early afternoon). The weekend as of now looks dry!

Yesterday went about as expected. High temps were only in the upper 40s with a few 50s inland and south. Skies were mostly sunny.

High Temps Yesterday

It was chilly with the breeze, but during the afternoon the winds died down. Then it actually felt pretty nice in the sun. I sat outside in a short sleeve shirt and felt pretty good. It was in contrast to the morning walk when I was bundled up and fighting the chilly breeze.

Today we’ll have similar weather. High pressure is to our northwest. There is still a weak area of low pressure lingering offshore.

Regional Weather Map

The low was close enough this morning that it brought a few showers to the southern Outer Banks. However, the rest of the region is mostly clear. Today we’ll have a good amount of sunshine, but the breeze will be even stronger out of the northeast. It will run at 10-15mph with gusts up to 20mph.

Wind Gust Forecast

This will keep the high temperatures down again. So we’ll only top off in the upper 40s with a few 50s inland/south.

Forecast Temperatures

You’ll notice that it will be MUCH warmer to the west. It will be warmer today in Chicago than it will be here. Also, look at the 70s and 80s in Texas and Oklahoma!

We’ll warm up a little bit here tomorrow. The low pressure system should mover farther out to sea, and high pressure should build in a bit more. High temps will be near 50 degrees.

Forecast Temps Tomorrow

The breeze should be less. So I think it will be a pretty nice day. However, I do think that Thursday will be even better. We’ll have partly cloudy skies with a southwest breeze. High temps will push up to the upper 50s, and if we’re lucky we might even hit 60.

Temperature Trend

Can’t wait.

Friday will still be mild, but there will be a lot more moisture. This will stream in ahead of a cold front. High temps will probably make it to the upper 50s to low 60s, but there is going to be some rain. There will be scattered to occasional rain showers at least in the morning. Some of the showers may linger into the afternoon. That’s a new trend on the models.

We’ll refine that forecast in tomorrow’s weather blog.
