Blog: Still cool & breezy. Watching for tidal flooding.

Over the weekend we had some strong winds at times. We also had some cold wind chills yesterday despite fair skies. The early afternoon dog walk was rough for this time of year. Low pressure moved through the area, and it moved offshore yesterday. Now it is pretty far offshore, but it is causing some large ocean waves. High pressure is overhead.

Waves Near Avon, NC

We’ll have a lot of sunshine today, but the wind will still be up a bit. It will run out of the northeast at 10-15mph with gusts to 25mph. Those stronger gusts will be the along the shore, but it won’t be too bad inland.

Wind Gusts Forecast

These continuing northeast winds will create some minor tidal flooding along the lower Chesapeake Bay.

Tidal Flooding Forecast

The forecast has come down a bit from the last 2 days. Meanwhile, over the Outer Banks there will be some Ocean Overwash during high tide. This will be especially true over the southern Outer Banks.

Tidal Flooding And OverWash

There will be some minor to near-moderate tidal flooding down there today. High tide is between 8-10am and 8-10mph. The tide should be a little lower tonight compared to this morning. The tides will decrease a bit tomorrow.

Other than that we’ll have a lot of sunshine today. High temps will be in the low-mid 50s with some upper 50s inland away from the water.

Forecast Temps Today

Tomorrow we’ll have a much lighter easterly wind. This will pull in some moisture, and that will in-turn increase the clouds.

Future Trak Tomorrow

I’m not expecting rain as it will be too dry at the surface. Hopefully, the sun pops out a little bit in the afternoon. High temps will be in the mid 50s, but it should feel better with the lack of wind.

Forecast Temps Tomorrow

By Wednesday the moisture will increase even more. We’ll have lots of clouds with a few rain showers. This will be ahead of a cold front and an area of low pressure. High temps will be in the upper 50s to near 60.

Temperature Trend

The 2 systems that I just mentioned will roll over the region on Thursday. We’ll have cloudy skies with on and off rain showers. It may even be a washout.

GFS Model Thursday

The good news is that we should have some great weather next weekend. Highs will be in the 60s Friday through Sunday, and we may even hit some 70s. We’ll see. I’ll have more details on the Eastern Weekend forecast in tomorrow’s weather blog.
