Today we are going to have some very dry, mild, and breezy weather. That may sound great. However, these conditions could cause some issues. Red Flag Warnings are up for most of southeast Virginia.
This means that conditions are high for wildfires. Outdoor burning is highly discouraged. Also, be very careful with grills, and be sure to put out cigarettes in an appropriate container. The air is super dry today. Dew points are down in the 20s.
High pressure is to our south. We’ll have an increasing wind out of the west/southwest.
Winds will be light and steady through midday, but the gusts will pick up to 25mph this afternoon. A few gusts to 30mph will be possible by the early evening.
This will be ahead of a cool front. The front won’t arrive until the early evening. So high temps will quickly rise to near 70 degrees as we head into the afternoon.
The front will pass through dry. So no precip (and hardly any clouds) are expected.
Tomorrow we’ll be dry and mostly sunny. However, high temps will get knocked down to the low 50s.
We’ll have a north breeze at 10-15mph with some higher gusts near the shore. This will make it feel pretty chilly despite lots of sunshine.
On Friday we’ll have gradually increasing clouds. Moisture will increase at all levels as the surface winds turn out of the southeast. We should be rain-free for most of the day, but some isolated showers will be possible late in the day.
High temps will be in the upper 50s.
The rain will increase Friday night into Saturday as a broad area of low pressure slides through the region.
The rain will be pretty widespread for the first half of Saturday. The rain showers should be more scattered later in the day.
High temps will warm to the 60s. The low is forecast to move out by Sunday. The GFS is totally dry by Sunday morning. The European model lingers some isolated showers into early Sunday, but it has DEFINITELY trended drier since the last 2 days. High temps will be in the 50s.
We could see 1-2 inches of rainfall between Friday night and Saturday night.
This is kind of good. We did just dry out recently (and we needed to). However, we are now going head-strong into the growing season. If the amounts are on the lower end, then that will be good. If it’s on the higher end, then we may go back to some standing water for a bit. Stay tuned for updates.
In world news… An article came to my attention yesterday about some extreme temperatures in Brazil. Apparently the temperature in Rio De Janiero reached about 43 degrees C. This is about 107 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s pretty rough. However, the heat index rose to 62 degrees C. That equates to a feels-like temperature of 143 degrees F. Wow!
