Yesterday, there was some pretty bad flooding across the north end of the Outer Banks. That location got hit not once but twice with heavy downpours.

Rain Yesterday

Chief meteorologist Jeff Edmondson left me some rainfall totals from down there. The amounts were about 10 inches or more between Southern Shores and Corolla. Wow!

OBX Rainfall Totals

The National Weather Service did have a storm report of over 10 inches down towards Currituck. Our radar estimated about 8-10 inches down that way.

Radar Estimates

There was still some standing water down there, but it did go down in most locations.

Other locations in the region had much less rainfall. The average was about a half inch up to an inch with about 1-3 inches over Virginia Beach.

24 Hour Rainfall Map

As you can see there was much less over the rest of the area. We do still need some rain. We had some more this morning during the morning commute.

Satellite/Radar This Morning

The combination of light rain and fog led to several traffic accidents.

Today we will have some more rain showers, but it won’t be as heavy nor as widespread as yesterday. We have a weak area of low pressure forming offshore. There are 3 fronts attached to it.

Regional Weather Map

The cool front over our area is almost stalled out. It will only very slowly move over the next 24 hours. There is also a lot of moisture over the entire region. It is wrapped up into the whole messy system. So we’ll have some scattered rain showers at times today, but it shouldn’t be a washout.

Future Trak This Afternoon

High temps will be in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. We’ll have a light north wind. While the winds have finally gone down, we will still have a chance for some minor tidal flooding. The ocean is still churned up. Plus, the King Tide is this week.

Tidal Forecast

The front will very slowly drop south tomorrow. This combined with a small upper level low will create some more scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.

Future Trak This Afternoon

The front should sink to our south by the late afternoon. That will start to dry us out.

Muggy Meter

High temps will be in the upper 70s with a light north breeze.

Over the next 2 days we are looking at a couple more tenths of an inch for rainfall. Some locations may see more than a half a inch.

48 Hour Rainfall Forecast

We will dry out nicely for Friday and Saturday. High temps will be in the mid-upper 70s. A quick moving low may bring us more scattered showers on Sunday. The timing and placement may change. So stay tuned for updates.
