I vividly remember going to see the movie “Groundhog Day” in theaters many years ago. I was up in Illinois, and we drove over to a small neighboring town during a bit of a snowstorm. (I was very used to driving in the snow). Comedies were very common at the time, but that movie was very fresh and funny. It’s been a few years. I need to watch it again.
Anyway, today is Groundhog Day in the real world. Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow this morning. So he predicts an early Spring. We’ll see what the local groundhog “Chesapeake Chuck” has to say later today… Or will we? There may be a special helper this year for the prediction. We’ll have the update on WAVY News 10 Midday.
The weather won’t be too bad, but it also won’t be too great either. We have a cold front dropping into the region today.
We’ll have some sunshine for a while. Then the clouds will increase as the front sinks to the south. There may be some isolated showers or sprinkles between noon and 6pm, but the chance is low. Winds will increase out of the north. They will run at 10-15mph with a few gusts to 20mph.
The temperatures will likely top off in the mid 50s around midday. However, they will drop back to the upper 40s by the end of the day.
Tomorrow we’ll be dry and chilly as high pressure builds back into the region. High temps will only be in the mid-upper 40s.
We’ll be mostly sunny with a steady northeast breeze. We’ll be mostly sunny Sunday and Monday with high temps near 50 degrees.
The latest models are still showing an area of low pressure forming offshore next Tuesday and Wednesday. However, they now have it moving faster out to sea and weaker in the short term.
So for now I just have the weather as breezy with temps in the 40s. As of right now I don’t think we’ll have any precip. The ocean still may be churned up though. We’ll have updates on it over the weekend.
