Blog: A few showers and chilly breezes

Yesterday, I talked about an upper level low that was going to move into the region and cause some scattered/light rain showers. That forecast has come to fruition. When we came into work this morning there were scattered light showers and pockets of drizzle over a good bit of the region.

Light Precip Before Dawn

The scattered showers started to decrease by 8am. While the coverage looked pretty impressive overnight, the rain totals were not. (They weren’t supposed to be).

24 Hour Rainfall

The totals were basically a trace to a couple hundredths of an inch. Through the day the upper level low will slide east out to sea. It will move over a surface low that is out there right now. (More on that in a moment).

Regional Weather Map

We’ll have clearing skies today. However, there will be an increasing breeze out of the north. It will gust up to 20mph at times. So despite the clearing it will stay seasonably chilly today. High temps will only be near 60 degrees.

Forecast Temps Today

I mentioned that the upper-level low will be sliding over the offshore low. Well….Tonight the surface low will strengthen a bit. Instead of riding east and pushing farther offshore it will actually push back a little to the west. It will also push some moisture west into our region. So we’ll have clouds building back over the area tonight with some spotty showers. These will mainly be near the coast.

Future Trak Overnight

Some of the clouds and showers will continue into tomorrow morning. There shouldn’t be much though. It won’t add up in the rain gauge. Then eventually the drier air will push south and will shove the low farther out to sea. Thus, we’ll have clearing skies again Thursday. However, the revved-up offshore surface low is going to create a stronger breeze on the back side. This means that tomorrow there will be some wind gusts up to 25mph out of the north.

Wind Gusts Tomorrow

This is going to keep the temps down even more. So highs will only be in the upper 50s to near 60.

Forecast Temps Tomorrow

By Friday the winds will weaken, and high pressure will settle in. We’ll have nice weather Friday through Sunday. High temps will be in the upper 60s Friday and Saturday. We’ll rise to near 70 by Sunday.

Temperature Trend

Aside from tonight and tomorrow morning the humidity should stay low most of the time.

Our overnight lows will mainly be in the 40s and 50s over the next 3 mornings. However, there may be some 30s far inland closer to I-95. I think there’s a little less chance for inland frost due to the clouds tonight.

Lows Tonight

However, there may be more of a threat for it out there on Friday and Saturday morning.

In contrast, the warm waters of the Atlantic could still fuel a tropical disturbance over the next couple of days. The disturbance is moving towards the Lesser Antilles and Puerto Rico.

Tropical Basin

While there is some warm water underneath the disturbance, there is also some dry air surrounding it. So we’ll see what it does over the next couple of days. The models generally keep it week and down near the Caribbean islands.

Forecast Models

We’ll keep tracking the feature to make sure that it stays south.
