The final chapter: My journey at WAVY

PORTSMOUTH, Va (WAVY) – My experience here at WAVY has been an amazing journey. Working as a digital intern has been a major accomplishment and has helped me grow both personally and professionally.

Throughout this internship, I have built my skills in writing, understanding news, posting for the web and understanding the digital workflow. Working here at WAVY has allowed me to apply my classroom knowledge in the digital department, and provided me with a deeper understanding of journalism in the real-world.

By going through all the departments here at WAVY, I got to understand how everything works and how everything is connected to each other. I got to meet amazing people and build friendships with my fellow interns. Everyone that I have met, I have learned a valuable lesson from, and from their knowledge and teaching me something new, I will carry that with me through my own personal journey.

Overcoming obstacles such as taking fast paced summer classes and working at my internship has taught me time management and also learning that I can push myself if I just put my mind to it. Through this process, I learned to stay clam under pressure and thinking creatively.

Support and guidance from my supervisor Jane Alvarez-Wertz and Madie MacDonald has helped me through many difficult challenges and navigating through the digital department with ease, making this experience a fun one.

Personally, this journey has been a path of a lot of self-discovery. I gained a deeper understanding on writing and gained more confidence in the professional world. This experience has sparked so many interests in trying to be a producer or writer. I learned to really love what I do here at WAVY and truly realize this is my passion.

My internship with WAVY has been a cornerstone of my academic and professional development. I am grateful to my supervisor, colleagues and my fellow interns for the support and guidance. As I move forward, I carry on the many lessons and advice that I have learned, and I am grateful for this wonderful opportunity that inspired me to be the journalist that I was meant to be.
