PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – One of the highlights of my WAVY-TV internship so far was getting to check out the Hampton Roads Show and WAVY News 10 with Kenisha Stringfield. Typically, I arrive in the afternoon, but I was able to make some schedule adjustments in order to see the morning show in action. I chose the best day to shadow as well, on Halloween! It was such a fun time to be there, especially with everyone dressed up in costumes and bringing extra energy to the set.
Watching the show’s flow was a new experience for me. Kenisha managed everything so seamlessly, balancing the cameras, timing and all the little details that make the show run. Every segment has a lot of moving parts, and watching it all come together made me realize just how much effort goes into making the show look effortless. One of the other interns a part of the fall ‘24 cohort, Jaelyn, works alongside Kenisha, and it was great to see her again. We got the chance to catch up a bit and she showed me the ropes around the studio.
One thing that really stuck with me was how adaptable everyone has to be. There’s always something to adjust or a new problem to solve, and it all happens in real-time. I could see the importance of staying calm and working as a team to keep everything on track.
Getting a closer look at the operational side of things on a special day like this reminded me of how exciting this field is. I’m grateful for the chance to learn from someone as experienced as Kenisha and to be part of a show that brings so much fun and creativity to local news.
