After a soggy week of weather last week, some thunderstorms during portions of our weekend, we’re due for some nice summer weather across Hampton Roads… fortunately, this week we’ve got it!

Today we will transition to drier weather as a stalled front across the Albemarle Sound produces a few showers for North Carolina and the Outer Banks. A few thunderstorms or downpours are possible as well. North of the state line for southeast Virginia, things remain quite pleasant with a mix of sun and clouds. Expect highs in the low 80s with some lower humidity.

This front wiggles south and drier air moves in from the north as we progress through the rest of the workweek. Expect low 80s in the afternoons, low humidity and a good amount of sunshine through at least Thursday and Friday. Enjoy it!

Rain chances could make a return with the humidity by the end of the week and the weekend… more of a reason to get out and enjoy the next few days.

Also by the weekend, we’ll notice an increase of surf & seas, as well as a rip current risk as soon-to-be Ernesto should be in the western Atlantic.

In the next day and a half (so by later Tuesday into Wednesday) the system will head into the Caribbean and likely interact with Puerto Rico as a tropical depression or tropical storm. By mid and late week, the system is expect to make the turn to the north. The official forecast from the National Hurricane Center has the storm as a hurricane making a pass for Bermuda by the weekend, we’ll keep a close eye on it over the next few days until it makes that turn.

So, as of now, our neck of the woods can expect some waves and rip currents by the weekend and into early next week. Stay tuned for updates!
