SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — When your number gets called, you have to stay ready so that you don’t have to get ready. Nansemond River Junior Taivon Douglas is already a key piece to the Warrior offense, but he stepped up on every side of the offense in the team’s win over Indian River.
A wide receiver/defensive back by trade (and a very effective one at that, as Douglas has garnered an offer from James Madison), last Friday, he replaced his teammate at quarterback during the second half of the Indian River game.
The overall statline was utterly ridiculous — 115 receiving yards on two catches, 55 rushing yards, and 44 passing yards. Oh yeah, he also scored the game-clinching touchdown to move the Warriors to 5-2 on the year.
This was meant to be a down year for Nansemond River, which lost key pieces on the offense, such as Alkendric Overton and Nick Grier. With the mix of Douglas, Tyrell Grant, Calvin Holloway and Melvin Brown, the Warriors are looking to make a statement in Class 5, Region B.
They look to continue that march toward a region title on Friday as they travel to Grassfield. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
