BayPort Athlete of the Week: Maury senior wide receiver LeBron Bond

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Every successful team needs to have a glue guy — a player that is a go-to option and can prove their reliability week-in and week-out.

Maury senior wide receiver LeBron Bond is that guy.

“Most people would say he’s special because of his ability and his talent. For me, I see somebody who matured, worked for what he got and did it the right way,” said Maury head coach Dyrri McCain

During his senior campaign, Bond has posted 1,098 all-purpose yards while finding the endzone 15 times. He’s led the Commodores to yet another unbeaten regular season and is charging with his teammates toward a second-straight Class 5 state championship.

“It means a lot,” said Bond, who committed to playing for Indiana football next season. “There’s a lot of good guys to wear this jersey — have to continue the legacy.”

“It’s great that he’s walking into a winning program. He’s leaving one, so they’ll know what to expect from him leaving one,” McCain said.

Bond and the Commodores will take on Woodside in the first round of regionals at 7 p.m. Friday.
