CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Two weeks ago, 55-year-old Anthony Smith died on Bernie’s Court South in Chesapeake.
Police say Smith’s son, 25-year-old Tevin Smith, was the shooter.
He also fired at his own brother, police say.
Tevin Smith is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated malicious wounding.
Court documents say Tevin’s mother was home during the shooting and was able to escape through a bedroom window to a house next door to call for help.
She told police she heard her husband and son fighting and then shots were fired.
She says the argument was over Tevin not knowing where his cell phone was.
The mother also told dispatchers she heard her son make suicidal statements and believed he had a gun.
Court documents say when police got there they found Anthony dead in a pool of blood at the entrance to a bedroom.
They also found one of Tevin’s brothers, who’d been shot in the face.
The brother told police, Tevin shot his father and then him.
Police say Tevin fled the home on foot, but was later located and taken into custody.
