PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — An inmate of Hampton Roads Regional Jail died Thursday night at a local hospital, officials say.
Jail officials say 65-year-old David Chatfield suffered a medical emergency and was taken to the hospital. He passed away just after 9:15 p.m.
Officials say Chatfield was in jail awaiting trial on charges of violation of a protective order, failure to appear and assault and battery out of Newport News.
The jail is conducting an administrative review into Chatfield’s death.
