NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Love was in the air at this year’s Grand Illumination Parade in Downtown Norfolk Saturday night.

Nate Epps proposed to his girlfriend Air Force Staff Sergeant DageJah Hampton in the middle of the parade route!

Epps got video of the big moment, which he shared with WAVY. You can see Epps ask Hampton to walk with him onto the street, where he immediately gets down on one knee.

Parade organizers live streamed Saturday’s parade online, which was broadcast on the side of a truck, which just happened to pass by right after Hampton said ‘yes!’ Their special moment was broadcast on the big screen.

Epps said he picked the parade for the proposal because the event is special to them. He said they met two years ago, on Nov. 19, 2022, at a Starbucks along the parade route and have been inseparable ever since. He has been planning this moment since last year. It’s their tradition to go to the parade together every year and they always watch from the same spot. That’s the spot where he proposed.

Congratulations to the happy couple!
