NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — It’s the season of giving, and the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office aimed to do that with a food giveaway Tuesday morning.

This is the 11th year the Sheriff’s Office gathered to load vehicles to deliver the things to make Thanksgiving dinner.

They gave the items to residents, churches and nonprofits to distribute to those in need. They delivered 105 turkeys, 45 turkey breasts and other types of food to make side dishes.

“There’s a lot of adversity going on in the world these days, and this is one little thing that we can do, and others could do, if they choose to, if just by giving and helping,” said Norfolk Sheriff Joseph Baron.

One of the first stops on the drop off list for the Sheriff’s Office was Shiloh Baptist Church.

Members there took the food in, with a mission to give it right back out to the community.

“We thank the Lord for having the department wanting to be with and helping us in this community. It’s just a blessing,” said Chloe Jones, a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. “We will be bringing those items to those who are dealing with various challenges in their lives,”
