VIRGINIA BEACH (WAVY) – On a blustery Saturday, Tabb and Nansemond River won respective field hockey state championships.

Tabb won the Class 3 crown after defeating district rival Poquoson 4-1. It was the Tigers fourth-straight state title and their 90th victory in a row, the most of any sport in VHSL history.

“To go one season undefeated is crazy, but four,” Senior Mika Hilburger said.

Coach Wendy Wilson added, “The girls are great role models and have the support of the school and just trying to bring that trophy back home to Tabb is awesome.”

In Class 5, Nansemond River defeated First Colonial to win the first field hockey state title in school history.

The Warriors defeated the Patriors 2-0 with both goals coming in the first half.

Coach Alison Dize has been the coach at Nansemond River for 15 years, and with a core four senior group, she finally has that state title.

“Over the last four years they’ve been my dogs,” Dize said. “The whole time they’ve been leaders and we got it done”.
