PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Detectives with the Portsmouth Police Department’s Major Crime Unit arrested 26-year-old Javonte Gray in connection with a homicide at the intersection of High Street and Frederick Boulevard.

On Friday, Nov. 15, the victim, Robert James Mallory was found suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound when Portsmouth Police arrived on the scene around 2:45 p.m.

Medics transported the 40-year-old man to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Gray has been charged with Second Degree Murder, Discharging a Firearm in a Public Place, Shooting in Roadway, Shooting from a Vehicle, Possession of a Firearm by a Violent Felon, and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony. He is being held without bail.

The investigation remains ongoing.
