HAYES, Va. (WAVY) – A man was arrested on Sunday for charges related to child neglect in Gloucester County, deputies said.

According to officials, deputies were dispatched to the 8100 block of Carrie Lane around 3:30 p.m. for reports of a disorderly person who assaulted a child.

Once deputies arrived to the scene, they attempted to detain the suspect, later identified as 39-year-old Joshua David Bell, but a struggle ensued. During the struggle, deputies said Bell grabbed one deputy and elbowed another in the midsection.

Eventually, deputies were able to arrest Bell after he threatened multiple deputies with physical harm. No injuries that required medical attention were reported.

After being arrested, Bell was charged with child neglect, public intoxication, obstruction of justice and two counts of assault and battery on a law enforcement officer.
