CLAYTON, N.C. (WNCN) — A confrontation with a wanted Clayton man ended with the man taking his life Monday afternoon, police said.
According to the Clayton Police Department, officers were attempting to locate 41-year-old Justin Patrick Andrews, who was wanted for several felony warrants related to domestic violence. His vehicle was found earlier in the day in the parking lot of the Clayton River Walk.
Police said they located Andrews near the intersection of Covered Bridge Road and Loop Road at around 5:30 p.m. Andrews produced a handgun and turned it on himself in front of officers. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to court records, Andrews had been indicted on several charges in Johnston County Court last Monday, including assault on a child under 12, first-degree forcible rape, and felony stalking.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
