PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – The YWCA South Hampton Roads is hosting its first Women of Distinction Alumnae Soirée.
The invitation-only event promises to be a special evening honoring the legacy of former Women of Distinction.
Since its inception, the Women of Distinction Awards have honored some 350 changemakers in the Hampton Roads community. The award ceremony began in 1989.
What’s being dubbed “a celebration of sisterhood” will be held on Tuesday, October 22 from 6-8:30 p.m. at The Mustard Seed Place in Portsmouth.
Award-winning actress Simmone Missick of CBS’ ‘All Rise’ and Netflix’s ‘Altered Carbon’, will be the featured guest speaker.
“This gathering is far more than a celebration; it’s a powerful affirmation of leadership, resilience, and collective strength of so many women in our community. This year’s theme, Persimmon and Pearls, beautifully symbolizes the richness and wisdom each past honoree brings to the region and reinvigorates what it means to boldly empower women and have some fun,” said Michelle Ellis Young, CEO of YWCA SHR.
If you recognize that name, Michelle Ellis Young has also made her name in the Hampton Roads community. She was named WAVY TV 10’s 2024 Remarkable Women contest winner.
An invitation to the October 22 event was sent to past Women of Distinction.
