Tips for shopping all of Walmart’s toy deals

With the range of items on sale at Walmart, it’s easy to get overwhelmed, especially if you’re not sure what you’re looking for yet. To help you search, check out these tips.

If you know what they like …

And you’re looking for something that’s still surprising to your intended recipient, start your search as narrow as possible. If they like card games, for example, check that category out first. But don’t scan every item on sale carefully, skim them. See if something jumps out at you where you think “yeah, I bet they’d love that.” If nothing does, check out similar categories until you do find something that makes you stop. Your goal should not be to just check a box on your list, but to find something that makes you strike that line out emphatically.

If you’re not sure where to start…

Then go as broad as possible. Walmart has categories on its sale page for shopping by age, popular toy brands, under $25 and clearance. Use them and scan them more carefully than you would if you already had an idea of what to get someone. Make separate tabs of the better options you think you find, but no more than five or narrowing them down later can be difficult. If you hit six, get rid of an old option.

You may not be able to strike out everyone on your list emphatically, especially if you’re not sure where to start. But that’s completely normal. You can’t have the best present you’ve ever given every year. But if it makes you smile when you’re thinking of gifting it, then it’ll probably make them smile too. And that’s more than enough.
